The best result for long-term archiving is to record a digital object both as image (readable to the human eye) and as bit-stream (bits-on-film, computer-readable).
This is ideal for electronic processing, because the digital characteristic of an archival object is thus preserved.
Single documents such as title pages or pictures can be additionally recorded as images. These thumbnails provide a visual overview of the content of the medium.
The 105 mm hybrid fiche is used with documents larger than DIN A2, or with clearly structured dossiers:
- Plan collections, maps, construction industry
- Land registry
- Finding aids, catalogues
